Four Years On: Where Is Nigeria’s Siemens Power Deal?

Back in the 2022/23 campaign, Peter Obi visited Egypt to study its surplus power model. APC supporters insisted our government had already struck a Siemens deal and even shared photos of transformers – they said it was settled. Now it’s 2026 and Nigerians are still in the dark. There’s no sign of those transformers and no clear increase in megawatts under the supposed Presidential Power Initiative. If the deal was real and executed, why do we still suffer grid collapses and poor supply? If it failed, why the silence from those who promised results? Before we debate the next election, Nigerians deserve an account of past promises. Power isn’t propaganda – it’s either in your socket or it isn’t.

What evidence do we have that the Siemens power deal ever reached an official agreement after those campaign photos?

You're right, there's little public record confirming the deal was formally signed after those photos.

We did see announcements implying an MoU was signed, which suggests the deal progressed beyond photos.

It's striking how supporters displayed transformer photos as proof, yet four years on there's still no public update on implementation.

Instead of waiting on politicians, local power cooperatives could explore solar microgrids to improve electricity access in underserved regions.
