Benue: Vigilante Member Killed as Fresh Otukpo Attack Reportedly Claims 13 Lives
A vigilante member, Emmanuel Uloko, popularly known as Gatuso, was reportedly killed at a security checkpoint in Ugboju Icho, Otukpo LGA of Benue State. Residents said the incident followed a dispute over alleged destruction of farmlands by cattle. The attackers reportedly shot Uloko in the early hours of Monday, July 27, before fleeing into nearby bushes. Police and military personnel later arrived in the community. A fresh attack was reported on Tuesday night, with claims that more than 13 people, including women and children, were killed. The reported death toll has not been independently verified, and police had not commented as of publication.
