Police in Panchkula arrested two foreign nationals for allegedly duping a retired central government officer of Rs 13.10 lakh. Investigators say Tapuwa, a Zimbabwean on a student visa, and Kenneth, a Nigerian on a medical visa, created fake WhatsApp profiles of women in the UK. They lured the 63-year-old retiree into investing in a phantom pharmaceutical business with promises of triple returns. The victim filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal after transferring funds between December 2025 and February 2026 without receiving any products or profits. Cyber crime officers traced the bank accounts, arrested the suspects in Bahadurgarh, and seized their phones and SIM cards. The pair have been remanded in police custody for five days.

Retirees should verify any unexpected money-requesting profiles by calling known family contacts before sending funds.
