Nigeria Tops Global Giving Index, Donates 2.8% of Income

Nigeria Tops Global Giving Index, Donates 2.8% of Income

The Charities Aid Foundation’s latest World Giving Report placed Nigeria first in global rankings for charitable giving. The study surveyed over 60,000 people across 105 countries to track donations to individuals, charities and religious causes. In 2025, 61% of Nigerians made donations and gave an average of 2.8% of their income. This outpaces the African average of 1.6% and far exceeds Europe’s 0.6%. CAF’s managing director noted that giving is shaped by personal values and circumstances. He urged individuals, organisations and governments to spark conversations and take action that strengthens communities. Nigeria’s leading generosity stands out amid rising living costs after the 2025 fuel subsidy removal and growing poverty rates. Social media users shared firsthand stories of Nigerian kindness at home and abroad.
