Couple Arraigned by EFCC for Alleged ₦1.09 billion Road Contract Scam in Ekiti
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has charged a couple in the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged ₦1.09 billion fraud linked to a road construction contract. According to the EFCC, a widow filed a petition after money meant for a Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission project vanished. Investigators say the first defendant convinced her to invest under false pretences. Bank records reviewed by the anti-graft agency show nearly ₦2 billion was paid into the defendant’s account. Prosecutors allege the funds were used to buy a lounge and a four-bedroom bungalow in Ado-Ekiti. An interim forfeiture order has been secured on the properties. Both accused pleaded not guilty when charges were read. Justice Abubakar Usman adjourned the case for further hearing.
