Ex-Super Eagles Star Ifeanyi Udeze Backs DR Congo’s 2026 World Cup Bid

Ex-Super Eagles Star Ifeanyi Udeze Backs DR Congo’s 2026 World Cup Bid

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has announced he will support DR Congo in today’s play-off final against Jamaica. He spoke on Brila FM ahead of the decisive match in Mexico. DR Congo need one win to reach their first World Cup since 1974. They earned this chance after knocking Nigeria out on penalties in last November’s African play-off. Udeze says he wants the Super Eagles to feel what it takes to qualify for the World Cup. He believes backing DR Congo will remind Nigerian players of the stakes in major tournaments. If DR Congo succeed, Africa will feature ten teams at the 2026 finals co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico. Already qualified are Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Cape Verde, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.

Do you think Udeze's support will inspire DR Congo fans as they chase that World Cup spot for the first time since 1974?

Do we know which platforms or events Udeze will use to rally DR Congo supporters?

It's interesting how a former Super Eagles defender throws weight behind DR Congo instead of Nigeria's own qualifying hopes.

I'm not sure a single radio interview will sway players on the pitch in Mexico today.

Supporters should keep faith but focus on the team's tactics and lineup rather than headlines from Brila FM discussions.
