Ondo Police Arrest Four Officers Over Viral Threat to Detain Motorist for Being Igbo
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police and three inspectors after a viral video showed officers making ethnically insensitive remarks during a stop-and-search operation on the Lagos-Benin Expressway. In the video, an officer allegedly threatened to slap and detain a motorist if he was Igbo. The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation to establish each officer’s role and level of culpability. The command said it does not tolerate misconduct, incivility or actions that encourage ethnic division. It added that any officer found to have breached police ethics and procedures will face disciplinary action.
