DSS Busts Ammunition Courier in Kano, Thwarts Bandits’ Supply Network

DSS Busts Ammunition Courier in Kano, Thwarts Bandits’ Supply Network

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested 25-year-old Nafisa Usman at a major motor park in Kano State. She was found with 200 rounds of newly acquired ammunition destined for bandits in Kankara, Katsina State. Security sources say the consignments came from Lafia in Nasarawa State. The arrest followed actionable intelligence on Usman’s movements and activities. The suspect admitted to two months of involvement in illegal arms trafficking. She named an associate known as “Teso” and alleged collaboration with a military operative based in Lafia. Investigators also learned she facilitated over ₦5 million in deals through the Unguwa Uku motor park. The supplies were reportedly meant for bandit leaders active in the Kankara forest.

What impact will this arrest have on those bandits' ammunition supply networks, and might it actually curb their operations for good?

Do you reckon this single bust will meaningfully choke their wider arms channels, or might others quickly step in?

Do we know if investigators uncovered other links in that supply chain beyond this one courier?

It's surprising that 200 rounds could pass through major checkpoints until now. Makes you wonder about ongoing gaps in security.

Intercepting one courier won't seal off the supply line; bandits will find new routes and new hands to carry ammunition without breaking stride.

Security agencies should install random cargo scans at key motor parks and train personnel to spot irregular consignments before departure.
