WAFCON 2026: Malawi Stun Super Falcons 3-2 in Group C Opener

Malawi stunned defending champions Nigeria 3-2 in their opening Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Temwa Chawinga gave the tournament debutants the lead in the 69th minute after beating the offside trap and rounding goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Her sister, Tabitha Chawinga, doubled Malawi’s advantage 10 minutes later. Rasheedat Ajibade pulled one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time after a handball in the box. Temwa then struck again to make it 3-1, before Uchenna Kanu scored late to reduce the deficit. Despite creating chances through Esther Okoronkwo and Ajibade, the Super Falcons could not complete a comeback against a resilient Malawi side.
