Herdsmen Kill Motorcycle Rider, Abduct FUTO Student in Imo
Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked a commercial motorcyclist and kidnapped a female student from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) along the Ihiagwa-Amaeze road in Owerri North LGA on April 24, 2026. The rider, identified as Emmanuel, was shot dead while taking the student to class. A relative confirmed the student is married to his younger brother and said the community is gripped by fear over rising insecurity. The Nzuko Owere General Assembly condemned the attack as one too many. In a statement, the group urged security agencies to rescue the student, warned residents to avoid isolated roads—especially at dusk—and called on vigilante groups to increase patrols and collaborate with law enforcement.
