SAN Alleges Cross River Officials Defied Court Order in Etung Cocoa Estate Row

SAN Alleges Cross River Officials Defied Court Order in Etung Cocoa Estate Row

A legal and political crisis has deepened over the Etung Cocoa Estates in Cross River State. Senior Advocate of Nigeria Ntufam Mba Ukweni accuses top state officials of ignoring an existing court injunction and undermining the rule of law. Ukweni, representing private investors, says the administration benefited from investor funds under a six-year lease but now seeks to eject them without refunds. He warns that using investor money to develop government assets and then driving them away is “fraud.” The conflict escalated when a group formed to enforce the court order was labelled illegal by the state government. The Attorney General stressed that only law enforcement agencies and court-appointed officers can execute judgments. Ukweni also alleges attempts to provoke unrest in the estates and refused to answer questioning by the State Security Adviser, insisting proper procedure requires a referral to competent law enforcement.
