Africa’s Green Future: Leaders Mobilise Financing for Energy and Climate Projects
At the 2026 AfDB Annual Meetings in Brazzaville, African heads of state and investors met at the Presidential Dialogue to present major energy, climate and green development projects. They stressed the urgent need for sustainable financing to back infrastructure, renewable energy and climate-resilient initiatives across the continent. Participants highlighted Africa’s annual $400 billion development financing gap. AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah urged the creation of stronger African financial systems capable of funding large-scale projects without excessive dependence on foreign aid. Several leaders showcased investment-ready initiatives in clean energy, green industrialisation, agriculture and transportation. They sought partnerships with development finance institutions, private investors and international stakeholders to drive Africa’s sustainable growth. Energy access was a central theme. Speakers linked reliable electricity to job creation, industrial expansion and poverty reduction. They also called for greater investment in climate-smart agriculture, water infrastructure and environmentally sustainable industries.
