Anti-North Smear Campaign Against Peter Obi Will Fail, Ex-PDP Spokesman Insists

A former PDP spokesman in Anambra State has rejected claims that Peter Obi is anti-North. Nnamdi Nwangwu, who recently joined the NDC, called the allegations false and politically motivated. He said opponents worried by Obi’s rising popularity invented the anti-North narrative. He pointed to the former governor’s strong ties with Hausa, Yoruba and other communities during his tenure. Obi regularly met Northern leaders and hosted members of Hausa communities in Amawbia and Onitsha. Mr Nwangwu also highlighted welfare initiatives that supported vulnerable families and unaccompanied minors from all regions. He argued that these actions reflect an inclusive leadership style. He insisted the smear campaign lacks evidence and will fail to dent Obi’s national appeal ahead of the 2027 election.
