Five African Nations Among Top 10 World Bank IDA Borrowers with $67.8bn Exposure
New data from the World Bank’s concessional lending arm show five African countries rank among the top 10 IDA borrowers, together owing $67.8 billion. IDA offers low-interest or interest-free loans to the world’s poorest nations for projects in infrastructure, health, education and poverty reduction. Nigeria leads Africa’s list with $18.5 billion in outstanding loans, followed by Ethiopia ($14.4 billion), Tanzania ($14.3 billion), Kenya ($13.2 billion) and Ghana ($7.4 billion). These five economies account for nearly 30 percent of total exposure among the top 10 borrowers, underscoring both Africa’s development needs and its role in global finance.
