Leverkusen’s Strategy: Why Boniface Joined Bremen on Loan

Leverkusen’s Strategy: Why Boniface Joined Bremen on Loan

Simon Rolfes, Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director, has detailed why Victor Boniface spent this season at Werder Bremen. Rolfes explained that after an injury-hit campaign in 2024/25, Boniface needed regular training to rebuild form. Playing every three days left little time for focused fitness work at Leverkusen, so a season-long loan was agreed. Despite further knee issues requiring successful surgery at Bremen, the striker is now recovering well. Rolfes says Boniface’s knee is strong and he’ll continue to work on regaining peak fitness.

Leverkusen should monitor his minutes strictly and plan gradual intensity increases to avoid repeating last year's setbacks.
