FCCPC Suspends Enforcement of Digital Lending Rules After Court Injunction

FCCPC Suspends Enforcement of Digital Lending Rules After Court Injunction

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says its role under the 2025 Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations is strictly to ensure transparency and fairness among fintech lenders. Enforcement of these rules has been paused by an ex parte order from the Federal High Court in Lagos. The Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria challenged parts of the regulations in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/760/2026, and the next hearing is set for July 20, 2026. The Commission denied claims that it submitted local fintech names to the Presidency. It reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection, a competitive lending market, and adherence to legal and judicial processes as the case unfolds.

I'm not convinced this suspension automatically harms borrowers; a pause could prevent rushed rule implementation before lenders are fully prepared.

Fintechs should proactively review their lending processes and update disclosures now, so they're ready once enforcement resumes.
