Lagos: Nigeria’s Melting Pot Deserves Fair Federal Representation
As some analysts have noted, cities thrive when they serve as melting pots. A truly cosmopolitan city attracts diverse talents and ideas, driving greater prosperity for all. Growth must be guided by effective governance. Visionary leadership and sound policies ensure that migration boosts, rather than strains, urban development. The Nigerian Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to live, work, and participate in politics anywhere in the country. Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna and other states should welcome newcomers and harness their skills and taxes. When a state’s population and GDP rise, its federal representation should reflect that growth. Lagos has earned greater seats at the centre. It’s only fair to grant the city the voice it has worked for.
