Ogun’s Gateway Airport Poised for International Takeoff with First Hajj Flights
The Ogun State Government is fast-tracking plans to launch international services at Gateway International Airport, starting with Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of a wider strategy to expand aviation infrastructure and boost economic growth in Ogun and the South-West region. Governor Dapo Abiodun has engaged key federal agencies to meet regulatory and operational standards for international operations. Areas under review include security frameworks, passenger processing systems, and full compliance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority requirements. Capt. Dapo Olumide, Consultant on Aviation Matters, leads consultations with the Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA, and Customs Service. Further talks with other federal bodies are underway to ensure timely deployment of staff and equipment. Once operational, the airport will enhance regional connectivity, support pilgrimage travel, and strengthen cargo movement. It will also complement Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport and position Ogun State as a rising hub for aviation and logistics.
