Ibibio Group Demands Evidence in Oro–Obolo Dispute, Backs Ibom Deep Seaport

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio has rejected what it calls distorted historical and territorial claims by the Oro–Obolo Youth Council over the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport and agitation for additional states. The group said recognising Oro identity does not settle disputes over boundaries, coastlines or constitutional claims. It urged all sides to rely on maps, colonial records, surveys, gazettes and other official documents rather than public assertions. MMI backed the Ibom Deep Seaport and called on Governor Umo Eno to pursue the technical, regulatory, financial and administrative steps needed to begin the project. It said disputes over host communities, maritime jurisdiction and environmental issues should be resolved by competent institutions and evidence-based processes. The organisation said it supports peaceful coexistence but will continue to defend Ibibio historical and economic interests while respecting the identity and aspirations of other ethnic groups.
