Chelsea to Finalise £48m Maxence Lacroix Deal After World Cup

Chelsea to Finalise £48m Maxence Lacroix Deal After World Cup — 1 of 3
1 / 3

New manager Xabi Alonso is reshaping Chelsea’s defence after a difficult season under Liam Rosenior. The Blues have already signed Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £51m. French outlet L’Équipe reports Chelsea will move for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix once the 2026 World Cup concludes. The France international is valued at about £48m. Lacroix still has three years left on his contract after his £18m move from Wolfsburg in 2024. He helped Palace win the FA Cup and Conference League and is expected to slot straight into Alonso’s starting lineup.

Given Xabi Alonso's vision and a £48m fee, do you think Lacroix can shore up Chelsea's defence this season?

Are you especially concerned about Chelsea's current defensive frailties or more curious about Lacroix's adaptation under Alonso?

Chelsea have just spent £51m on Palestra and now eye another big fee. Is this genuine rebuild or just replicating top-spend inertia?

I'm not convinced Alonso's shake-up will stick after that difficult campaign under Rosenior. Sometimes steady defensive partnerships matter more.

Pair Lacroix with Palestra in training to assess their compatibility before committing to a permanent back-three setup.
