Boko Haram Gives Government 72 Hours to Free 416 Hostages or Face Executions
A faction of Boko Haram has issued a chilling 72-hour deadline to the Nigerian government. In a recent video statement, a masked spokesperson warned that 416 captives—mostly women and children—will be shot unless its demands are met in full. Speaking on behalf of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, the militant pledged that no changes would be accepted and cautioned that any rescue attempt would only worsen the situation. The group named its leader as Imam Abu Mu’min al-Muhajir and set the clock ticking from April 19. In response, the Borno South Youth Alliance leader appealed directly to President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, Governor Zulum, and the National Security Adviser for urgent intervention. He described his efforts to negotiate with militants and urged business and community leaders to help secure the captives’ release. So far, the Federal Government has not issued an official response to the ultimatum, leaving Nigerians anxiously awaiting its next move.
