Africa Brand Index to Measure How Global Markets Perceive African Countries
Africa Global PR Week 2026, scheduled for Nairobi from August 26 to 28, will launch the Africa Brand Index, a proposed tool for measuring how African countries are perceived globally. Brand South Africa has joined the summit as its Strategic Nation Branding Partner. Investment decisions are shaped by more than GDP, market size and business regulations. Reputation, trust, stability and international credibility can also influence whether investors and global brands choose Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda or other African markets. If the index is credible and widely adopted, it could give African governments, businesses and investors a shared way to assess national reputation and competitiveness. It could also help African countries shape their own narratives instead of relying mainly on outside perceptions. Should a continent-specific brand index influence investment decisions, or are existing global rankings enough?
