20 Killed in Dawn Attack on Kawel Community, Plateau State

Police in Plateau State have confirmed that 20 people lost their lives when armed men stormed Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos LGA, in the early hours of Sunday. Eighteen victims were declared dead at the scene, and two others died shortly after receiving medical attention. The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, ordered the Divisional Police Officer in Bokkos to lead a rapid response alongside the Violent Crime Response Unit and other security agencies. The combined team engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat. Families declined autopsy, and the remains of the victims have been released for burial. Additional tactical squads and Mobile Force personnel have been deployed to the area, and residents are urged to share any information that could help track down those responsible.
