Wikipedia Blocks Direct AI Edits Over Persistent ‘Hallucination’ Risks

Wikipedia co-founder spoke at a London event, warning that AI systems still generate false information, or “hallucinations,” too often to be trusted with direct article edits. The platform remains funded by donations, and he urged AI companies to contribute toward rising server costs or face access restrictions.

Blocking AI from direct edits seems drastic when it could assist volunteers in catching errors, rather than replace human judgment entirely.

I'm not convinced volunteers can stay unbiased; even with AI support, dominant voices still shape what gets reported or overlooked.
