TCN Mobilises Ogun Communities to Protect Power Lines from Vandalism
The Transmission Company of Nigeria has stepped up efforts to curb vandalism of power installations in Ogun State through community sensitisation programmes. The Benin Region team took the campaign to Itele in Ijebu East LGA to educate residents on the dangers of tampering with transmission facilities. Charles Iwuamadi, General Manager of TCN’s Benin Region, explained that communities along transmission lines can help detect suspicious activity early. He warned that vandalism threatens grid stability, drives up transmission costs and disrupts local economic activities. TCN urged residents to safeguard transmission corridors, report illegal construction under high-tension lines and alert authorities to any suspicious movements. Community leaders, including the Moyegeso of Itele, Oba Mufutau Kasali, pledged their support to defend vital power assets and prevent prolonged outages.
