Nigeria Selects 10-Strong Boxing Squad for 2026 Commonwealth Games
The Nigeria Boxing Federation has confirmed 10 champions from a field of 128 at National Stadium, Lagos. These athletes will represent the nation in Glasgow from 24 July to 1 August 2026. Leading the women’s team is African Games gold medallist Patricia Mbata, who defeated national champion Blessing Orakwe by unanimous decision in the +70kg final. Joining her are Happiness Udoette (51kg), Kadijat Ajibola (57kg), Damilola Sodipe (65kg) and Celestine Edoka (70kg). In the men’s division, UK-based coach Kenneth Anigboro claimed the 90kg berth after edging Abiodun Adesoja. Golden Baoko Joseph Daniel also advanced in the 80kg category via a walkover. NBF Technical Director Babatunde Laguda praised both winners and emerging sparring partners. He reminded fans that Nigeria’s four medals in Birmingham 2022 set a benchmark the team aims to surpass.
