After Tinubu’s Intervention, Warri Ijaw and Urhobo Leaders Demand Protesters Vacate Oil Facilities
Leaders of the Ijaw and Urhobo communities in the Warri federal constituency have called on aggrieved youths, women and other stakeholders to vacate all occupied oil and gas facilities. They recalled that rising tensions over a Supreme Court-ordered delineation exercise spurred Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and community leader Tompolo to convene emergency meetings, before President Bola Tinubu intervened in Abuja. The president appealed for unity among Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo groups and urged them to settle on a fair power-sharing arrangement across Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West. In their joint statement, the ethnic leaders said withdrawing from the facilities shows respect for the presidency and will allow INEC to implement the new constituency boundaries without obstruction. They also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and Tompolo for their timely interventions.
