Troops Repel ISWAP Assault on Mandaragirau Base, Neutralizing 38 Militants
On the morning of Saturday, 28 March 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force North East foiled an ISWAP attack on FOB Mandaragirau in Borno State. The operation, under “Hadin Kai,” combined ambush tactics with close air support to halt the militants’ advance. Security forces neutralized 38 insurgents and recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG warheads and assorted ammunition. Blood trails and abandoned equipment marked their withdrawal routes along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis. There were no military fatalities, although one armoured vehicle was hit by rocket fire and the crew was promptly treated. Further clearance operations are ongoing to secure the area and recover any remaining threats.
