You can still buy garri and suya. It feels like moving, but with training wheels. Stories of friends who quickly find jobs, buy cars and send money home fuel the obsession. Social media only shows the highlight reel: winter coats in London, new beginnings and glowing selfies. For many, a one-year master’s degree doubles as a work-visa strategy. Abroad, hard work is respected and pays enough to live comfortably. Leaving Nigeria is no longer shameful — it is strategic survival.
