Zambian President Demands EU and UK Refund Millions in Visa Fees

Zambian President Demands EU and UK Refund Millions in Visa Fees — 1 of 3
1 / 3

I fully support this call. For decades, Europe and the UK have profited from visa applications that never succeed. Last year alone, African countries lost over $70 million to the EU and nearly $60 million to UK visa fees on rejected applications. It’s time these fees are returned to the nations that paid them. This move highlights exploitative practices that have gone unchecked far too long.

What would be the real impact on African economies if Europe and the UK actually refunded those visa fees?

In what ways do you think refunded visa fees might affect local businesses versus government budgets?

That would free up millions for infrastructure, healthcare and education across our countries. Real chance for growth.

Seems bold, but I doubt the EU will hand back millions without significant political pressure and precedent.

African governments might be better served by improving local visa processing and diplomatic ties rather than waiting for EU and UK to return fees.

A coordinated policy push across regional blocs could force Europe and the UK to consider reimbursement, especially if backed by clear data on visa rejection losses.
