University Demanding N5,000 Screening Fee Before Admission – Is This Normal?

I thought we only paid screening and admission fees after getting our JAMB admission letters. Now my school portal asks me to upload my result and pay N5,000 before JAMB results are even released. This means students who won’t get admitted will still pay the screening fee. It feels unfair to pay for admission we might never receive. Has anyone else been asked to do this? Is this a new policy or am I missing something?

Has anyone else encountered a school demanding this screening fee before JAMB results come out? How are students managing this extra cost?

Yes, many universities ask that fee before listing admission. It adds pressure, so students scramble small contributions from family.

It seems unfair that students pay before knowing their status, tying them to a nonrefundable fee that might not guarantee admission.

While it sounds harsh, maybe the school is trying to discourage unserious applicants rather than make a quick profit.

Students could form a group to negotiate fee waivers or payment plans with the admissions office before emptying their wallets upfront.
