US Completes Full Withdrawal from Syria, Forces Redeployed to Iraq and Jordan

As of April 2026, the United States has ended its 12-year military presence in Syria. The final base at Qasrak Air Base in Hasakah province was evacuated and handed over to the Syrian Arab Army. The phased withdrawal began in February and concluded in mid-April. U.S. forces and equipment were redeployed to neighbouring Iraq and Jordan. Former Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces have been integrated into Syria’s new national army to continue counterterrorism operations. This move marks the end of America’s combat role in Syria under a US-brokered agreement between the incoming Syrian government and local forces.

I'm not sure ending the Syria mission means US influence will fade, given their redeployment still projects power from Iraq and Jordan.
