Ottawa Police Chief Slams Officers for Running Licence Plates of Women to Seek Intimate Relationships
Ottawa’s police chief has issued a stern warning after some officers used the official licence-plate database to track down women they found attractive. Chief Eric Stubbs described this as a clear misuse of police resources. In a video statement, Stubbs revealed officers were checking plates of women leaving cafes, gyms or in their cars and then messaging them. He said this behaviour turns an investigative tool into a private dating service. The chief also reaffirmed the force’s goal of having women make up 30% of its workforce and warned that any further misconduct will result in disciplinary action.
