AIG Directs Lagos and Ogun Commands to Handle Investigations Locally

AIG Directs Lagos and Ogun Commands to Handle Investigations Locally

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has ordered an immediate stop to transferring cases from Lagos and Ogun to the zonal headquarters. All investigations must now be completed within their respective state commands. He made the directive during his first strategic security meeting with the Commissioners of Police in both states. Petitions alleging lapses will still be referred back to the state CPs, while specialised investigators from the zone will assist on complex cases. Jimoh praised recent successes in crime prevention and called for more proactive patrols against violent crimes. He also warned that any officer found violating operational guidelines or engaging in unprofessional conduct will face disciplinary action.

It seems unlikely that simply stopping case transfers will fix deeper coordination issues between local and zonal units.

Unless dem equip each command better with trained detectives and forensic labs, this directive might just shift backlog rather than speed cases.

Local commands should set up clear timelines and regular progress reports to ensure investigations stay on track and avoid unnecessary delays.
