Osun Poll: INEC Says NURTW Factional Dispute Will Not Affect Election Logistics
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State says it is not aware of any faction within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as it prepares logistics for the August 15 governorship election. Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola said INEC works with the NURTW’s national leadership, not state chapters, under an existing agreement. She said the commission has remained in contact with representatives of the national body and has received no notice of a factional dispute. INEC will rely on the NURTW and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to move election materials and personnel. Babalola added that transport providers have been trained across Osun’s local government areas, while vehicles scheduled for election duties will be inspected on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the poll. The clarification follows a leadership dispute in the Osun NURTW chapter, where a new caretaker committee was recently constituted by the union’s national leadership.
