Rhodes-Vivour: Tinubu Has No Re-election Path, So He’s Engineering a Solo Candidacy

Rhodes-Vivour: Tinubu Has No Re-election Path, So He’s Engineering a Solo Candidacy

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, ADC chieftain and former Labour Party Lagos governorship candidate, told Channels TV that credible polls show President Tinubu cannot win in 2027. He pointed to shifting voter sentiment in the North, which delivered 62% of Tinubu’s 2023 votes, and blamed the president’s “city boys” government for eroding his base. Rhodes-Vivour accused Tinubu of fomenting crises within opposition parties, including the ADC, to weaken rivals ahead of 2027. He argued these tactics aim to clear the field so Tinubu appears unopposed, but insisted they will ultimately fail. His remarks came after INEC removed ADC leaders’ names from its portal by court order. The party rejected this move and staged a protest at INEC headquarters in Abuja, joined by Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso and hundreds of supporters.

Even if 62 percent of Tinubu's 2023 votes came from the North, polling volatility suggests relying on that bloc alone seems precarious.

I no see how solo candidacy go outmaneuver APC's established structures across key regions, even if polls look shaky.

Tinubu should engage grassroots organizers in swing states and address regional grievances to regain lost momentum before 2027.
