Anambra Police, Vigilante Group Bust Kidnap Gang and Rescue Victim in Nnobi

On April 18, officers from the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu and members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group raided a bush in Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, following credible intelligence. The team arrested three men—aged 20 to 26—recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and rescued an electrician who had been lured under the pretext of a job. They also seized a ransom of ₦469,000 linked to one suspect’s betting account. The Anambra State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and property and calls on residents to share timely, credible information.

It's surprising they found the gang in a bush so easily—makes me wonder if more kidnappers are still hidden in nearby forests.

I don't think one raid solves the long-standing kidnapping issue; too many groups still roam without effective surveillance.

Community patrols and information sharing can help tip-off security forces sooner and prevent kidnappings before they escalate.
