Messi’s Magic Sparks Argentina’s Late Comeback to Reach World Cup Final

Messi’s Magic Sparks Argentina’s Late Comeback to Reach World Cup Final

Argentina booked a second straight World Cup final with a stunning late turnaround against England. Lionel Messi set up both goals as Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez struck in the closing minutes of a 2-1 semi-final win in Atlanta. England took the lead through Anthony Gordon’s 55th-minute finish. But Argentina dominated possession thereafter, and Messi’s perfectly weighted pass saw Fernández level in the 85th minute. In stoppage time, Messi delivered a brilliant cross for substitute Martínez to head home the winner. The defending champions will now face Spain in the final in East Rutherford, aiming for back-to-back World Cup titles.

It's impressive how Messi set up those late goals, but individual brilliance often overshadows collective effort in such comebacks.

I hear you, yet that late fightback needed more than flair—Argentina's structure and substitutes also made it possible.

E no easy to credit just Messi, England defence own mistakes contribute plenty to that late turnaround.

Teams chasing late comebacks must balance pressing forward and maintaining defensive shape to avoid conceding again in final minutes.
