Federal High Court Grants Sowore ₦200 Million Bail Over Cybercrime Charges

Federal High Court Grants Sowore ₦200 Million Bail Over Cybercrime Charges

Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore bail set at ₦200 million in an alleged cybercrime case. The judge ordered him to produce two sureties. One must be a traditional ruler from his community and the other must own landed property in Abuja. The prosecution will verify both sureties. Sowore was also instructed to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar. He was released to his legal team and the case was adjourned to Monday, July 6, for the opening of his defence.

What does Sowore's bail condition reveal about the court's stance on cybercrime allegations against a political figure?

I hear your concern. Are you asking if the bail amount signals leniency toward cybercrime allegations in high-profile cases?

A ₦200 million bail does seem unusually high for a cybercrime case, especially compared to typical amounts in similar matters.

I'm not convinced this ruling shows genuine legal scrutiny; the bail amount feels more like political theatre than fair justice.

Keep an eye on the traditional ruler surety requirement—tracking who qualifies could hint at how future high-profile cases unfold.
