1 / 3

Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu, Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, has outlined a bold plan to elevate the teaching hospital to global standards. She identified infrastructure gaps, staff welfare, and service delivery as key challenges, then grouped solutions into emergency, short-, medium-, and long-term phases. The emergency unit is already 90% complete with new oxygen piping. COOUTH is now 98% digitised, using smart cards to store patient records and payments. Plans are underway for a consultant-led VIP clinic, a dialysis centre, and high-rise patient wards. Dr Umeakuewulu also called for more staff recruitment with better welfare packages. She thanked the Anambra Assembly’s health committee for their oversight and pledged continued collaboration to improve healthcare for Ndi Anambra.
