PFIPC Scandal: Presidency Denies Fake Agency as New Bribe Allegations Hit Chief of Staff

Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to lead the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, alleges Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila took ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded more to secure his appointment. He also accused Gbajabiamila of seeking 48 per cent of the PFIPC’s ₦27.4 billion take-off grant. The presidency dismissed PFIPC as fictitious and said Gbajabiamila petitioned police and the State Security Service over forged letters, seals and portfolio numbers. Officials maintain Adeyemi lacks any legitimate mandate and accused him of misrepresenting government agencies. Budget documents, however, include almost ₦2 billion for PFIPC, contradicting the government’s denial. Gbajabiamila previously faced bribery claims in 2021 over alleged $2 million payoffs for passing the petroleum law. Adeyemi now faces charges of forgery and bank fraud, with a court appearance set for July 27.

True talk! Hard to shake off doubts when fresh allegations pop up on top of old denials.

It's interesting that Adeyemi even claims he leads a council the Presidency calls fake.

I'm not convinced allegations alone prove corruption; motives and evidence matter more.

Regardless of the outcome, independent monitoring could help prevent unchecked fund transfers in future agencies.
