INEC Declares End to Ballot Box Snatching, Launches Grassroots Voter Education
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan has declared the era of ballot box snatching and manual result manipulation over. He praised the success of recent FCT and Ekiti polls for over 90% early openings, biometric accreditation via BVAS, and swift result uploads. Amupitan warned that voter apathy and disinformation still threaten election integrity. He called on INEC and the National Orientation Agency to roll out a decentralised, youth‐focused voter education campaign. The aim is to explain technological safeguards, combat vote‐buying, and clarify polling unit changes. National Orientation Agency DG Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu welcomed the partnership and stressed the need to boost turnout. Both agencies will equip community ambassadors with accurate technical knowledge and engage Nigerians in the language they understand.
