Broos Criticises Nicaragua’s Negative Tactics After Goalless Friendly
South Africa coach Hugo Broos has expressed frustration after his side failed to break down a defensive Nicaragua team in their final World Cup warm-up. Lyle Foster struck the post from a first-half penalty, and Oswin Appollis, Thapelo Maseko and Sphephelo Sithole tested Nicaragua goalkeeper Erick Castrillo with efforts he saved in the second half. Despite dominating possession, Bafana Bafana could not find a way through. Broos said the opponents defended for 90 minutes, clearing every ball and inviting pressure. He added that missing the penalty made it even harder to unlock their strategy. The coach plans to field a stronger side against Jamaica on June 5 before the squad departs for Mexico.
