Karen Allen at 74: From Marion Ravenwood to Textile Entrepreneur

Karen Allen is an American actress best known for her role as Marion Ravenwood in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. She was born in Carrollton, Illinois on October 5, 1951, and made her film debut in National Lampoon’s Animal House in 1978. Over four decades, Allen has appeared in films like The Sandlot, The Perfect Storm and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. She has also starred in Broadway and off-Broadway productions, and even directed award-winning short films. Outside acting, Allen founded Karen Allen Fiber Arts in Massachusetts in 2003. She knits artisan textiles, teaches at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and practices yoga. Her hands-on approach earned her an honorary master’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Allen married actor Kale Browne in 1988; they had a son, Nicholas, before divorcing in 1998. Nicholas Browne went on to become a chef and won a Food Network “Chopped” competition. Today, Allen’s net worth is estimated at around $10 million.
