Baby Dies After Sanitation Lockdown Enforcers Detain Father in Anambra
A five-month-old infant died after sanitation officials detained his father during Anambra State’s monthly lockdown exercise. The father had rushed out early to fetch a medicine woman for his convulsing child. Officials enforcing the 6 a.m.–11 a.m. movement restriction seized his motorcycle and held him at the local government headquarters for two days despite urgent pleas and repeated warnings that his baby was in critical condition. The distraught mother brought her convulsing child to the premises and begged for release. Officials reportedly refused, telling her to avoid a scene. The baby later died in his mother’s arms inside the council building. Neither state nor local government authorities have issued an official response. The police command says it is investigating the video that has since gone viral on social media.
