Tinubu Sends Team Nigeria to Glasgow 2026, Emphasises Honour Over Medals
President Bola Tinubu has charged Team Nigeria to uphold honour, discipline and excellence at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He spoke at the presidential send-off ceremony in Abuja, urging athletes to fly the green and white with pride as true ambassadors. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Femi Gbajabiamila, the President reminded the team that while medals matter, integrity is priceless. He warned against misconduct and doping, and promised generous rewards for those who protect Nigeria’s image. At the event, the National Sports Commission unveiled PUMA as the team’s official kit partner. NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko pledged full support, while DG Bukola Olopade stressed zero tolerance for indiscipline. Team Nigeria will field 74 athletes in ten sports from 23 July to 2 August 2026.
