IGP Warns Officers: Police Are Paid to Protect Lives, Not Take Them

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has reminded officers that their duty is to protect lives and enforce the law, not to unlawfully take lives. He said police weapons are bought with taxpayers’ money and must be used only to defend the public, preserve peace and uphold the law. The remarks come amid continued concerns over police brutality, accountability and public trust in the force.
