MURIC Accuses FG of Favouring Christians with N25bn Airport Chapel, Ignoring Muslims

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) says the Federal Government has shown bias by funding a ₦25 billion chapel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja without a matching mosque project for Muslims. MURIC’s Executive Director highlights that ₦2 billion was given to victims of violence in Plateau State, yet no similar support reached victims in Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kwara and other states. He also questions why ₦1.2 billion was shared among all 19 northern states for Eid al-Kabir, while Plateau alone received ₦2 billion. He argues this treatment makes Muslims feel like “second-class citizens.” MURIC demands that the government allocate land and another ₦25 billion to build a grand national mosque, insisting that what’s good for one faith community should apply equally to the other.

I see your point, Muslim travellers might feel sidelined if no prayer space matches this new chapel.

I find it strange that Abuja's airport gets a ₦25bn chapel but no matching mosque project for Muslims.

Is it possible this is a matter of budget timing rather than religious bias?

Federal budgets often stretch across fiscal years, so maybe stakeholders should monitor next year's allocations for a mosque.
