Lagos Unveils ‘Zero Tolerance’ Drive Against School Violence, Bullying and Cultism

Lagos Unveils ‘Zero Tolerance’ Drive Against School Violence, Bullying and Cultism

Lagos State has launched a renewed “Zero Tolerance” campaign to curb sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), bullying, cultism and drug abuse in schools. At a sensitisation event in Alausa, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education outlined plans to strengthen child protection policies, safety measures and guidance services across all public schools. The commissioner stressed that children learn best in environments free from fear or intimidation. He urged teachers to act as mentors and protectors by spotting early warning signs of abuse and ensuring confidential reporting channels are in place. Parents, community leaders and security agencies were called on to partner with schools in safeguarding learners. Students were encouraged to reject violence, support classmates facing threats and report any form of abuse to trusted adults. Reaffirming the state’s commitment, officials said Lagos will continue investing in teacher training, counselling services and strategic partnerships to create safe, inclusive and violence-free learning environments.
