Sunday Opoke Secures PDP Ticket for Ebonyi North Senatorial Seat
Chief Sunday Opoke emerged unopposed as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the run-up to the 2027 general election. Opoke, who previously served as General Manager of the Ebonyi Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency and contested the governorship under the Young Progressives Party, thanked members for their support and decried the current economic challenges he attributes to poor governance. He pledged to leverage the zone’s rich deposits of lead, zinc and limestone to attract investors, bring government closer to the people, and champion women and youth development. Party officials praised the transparent primary process in Abakaliki and urged members to unite behind Opoke as the PDP seeks to reclaim the senatorial seat.
